All About Online Education: Q + A with Kourtney Sumner, Director of Graduate and Online Admissions

It is no secret that Kourtney Sumner loves her job as director of graduate and online admissions at Grace. Whether it’s interacting with students or making the magic happen behind the scenes, she is passionate about seeing online students reach their full potential during the online degree experience. Let’s get to know Sumner and what makes her an online education enthusiast.

What do you like most about your job?

I like getting to work with all of the amazing employees at Grace – it doesn’t get better than these people! I also really enjoy being on the admissions team and helping as we crush our admissions goals and bring students in so that they can pursue an online degree at Grace.

What led you to working on the Online Admissions team?

I actually have received a couple of degrees via online education myself. I wanted to help as many people as possible understand the possibility of getting an online degree, too!

Why do you feel that online education is important? 

Online education meets people wherever they are in life. With an online degree, there is an opportunity to grow and develop yourself tremendously while still saving time and money. To me, that is a no-brainer investment.

What are some common questions students have going into the program? 

Students frequently ask if our programs are truly 100% online. Thankfully, our website has these answers and many more, but just so everyone knows: the answer is yes! Our programs are fully online. That being said, we do love to see online students around campus! So, if you’re local, feel free to come visit us.

What are the most common reasons students pursue online education? 

It’s quite simple, really. People want to grow personally and in their career. Online education is a great way to do both simultaneously!

If you could give a new online student any advice, what would it be? 

Jump in! You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you try. Once you get going, you’ll be so thankful that you did. I actually received my MBA 100% online, and it was a great choice. I would have regretted it if I had not gone for it!

What is something you know now that you wish you had known as a college student? 

Work experience and an online degree together is a great way to get hired! Don’t be afraid to work and pursue your online education at the same time. It will make it easier to market yourself when you are ready to start your career or make a career change. Plus, our programs are designed with the working individual in mind. I’m thankful I was able to work and pursue my education at the same time!
